The most effective robot vacuums that self-empty have an underlying container that can hold a full month's worth debris and automatically empty it. It creates a detailed home map, allowing you mark rooms and define "no go" zones.

iRobot Roomba s9+

This robot is a premium model from iRobot and performs extremely well. It maneuvers easily across a range of different surfaces and is very effective at collecting dust, dirt, and debris. It's also sturdy and looks good as well.

The S9 is the latest model of iRobot's premium S Series line of robot vacuums. As such, it comes with a handful of extra features that set it apart from other models. The iRobot App use, for instance, the camera to create maps that allows the unit to navigate and clean more efficiently.

It can also automatically return to the spot where it left off when its battery is depleted during cleaning, so you don't have to waste time re-cleaning the same spots. You can start and stop cleaning with a voice command, or through the iRobot App. This smart vacuum can even clean in the dark!

Carpet Boost is another great feature. It provides the S9 more suction power when it comes in contact with carpeting so that it will be able to pick up more dirt. It also features the square front design, which is more close to the corners and walls as opposed to the earlier round designs. But, be aware that this model won't work well with shag or high-pile carpeting.

In our tests, we discovered that the iRobot S9+ cleaned thoroughly and efficiently a range of floor surfaces, including hard and medium-pile carpets. It also performed well on laminate floors, and vinyl flooring. It also did a nice job of navigating around objects and furniture, although it did struggle with stairs, and could accidentally hit things like bookcases.

The S9's ability to return to its base and empty its dust bin when it is full was an excellent feature. It eliminated the necessity for manual maintenance. The dust bin will last for about 30 loads or a month and half. It's recommended to replace the filter every few months (as recommended by iRobot). Our experience suggests that the iRobot S9+ doesn't get loud during operation which makes it a good choice for those who live with pets or children.

Eufy RoboVac X8 Hybrid

Robot vacuum cleaners are created to do the chores for you, and can be used to clean hardwood and carpeted flooring. The most effective ones can be controlled and monitored via an app on your smartphone, and some even have mopping tech for bathroom and kitchen floors. They're an excellent solution for busy families, and are becoming more affordable than ever. If you want top-of-the-line features in your robotic cleaner, you're going to have to spend a bit more.

The Eufy RoboVac X8 Hybrid vacuum and mopping machine is a great choice for people who live in a multi-floored apartment. Its dual motors give it impressive cleaning power and the 0.6l dustbin can store plenty of pet hair. The dustbin is able to be removed and emptied easily this is important since you'll have to do it frequently.

It's also easy to set up, but I would recommend fully charging the X8 Hybrid prior to running it for the very first time. You'll have to install the Eufy Home app and follow the instructions for connecting it to your Wi-Fi network. Once you've done this the app will assist you create an accurate map of your home. You can label rooms and divide large spaces into sub-rooms (good for open plan living) and direct the X8 Hybrid to specific areas that require cleaning at the time of. Eufy's app is more intuitive and refined than other robots that have similar mapping and scanning functions.

The X8 Hybrid has a great feature: you can control the vacuum cleaner or mop by voice thanks to the integration with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. This is a wonderful feature that makes the robot more hands-free. It was a success in our test home.

Like many robotic vacuums, the X8 Hybrid has some issues with floors that are not clean. It can miss pet fur and small objects and can cause bumps to objects like its charger on the charging platform. It's also not as quiet, and the whirring sound could be distracting as with other models.

Roborock V3S Pro

This model doesn't have the same features as some of the more expensive models we've tested, but it does have the basics covered. It has a large enough dust bin that can hold plenty of dirt until it needs emptying and its vacuum and mop system is perfect for carpets with low pile and hard floors. It's also very quiet, and we were able to sit and watch the TV while it was working without feeling like it was blazing us with the sound.

Our testers were very impressed by how simple the machine was to use and set up. They also loved its ability to eliminate all the messes from their floors. It even did a pretty good job at removing pet hair and messes on carpeting, although it was less successful in removing stubborn stains. The app was simple to use and intuitive. It was able to set up the vacuum to clean on a regular basis to minimize the amount of manual work. It doesn't have the ability to avoid objects or map technology, which means it cannot be able to be directed to specific rooms or follow virtual boundaries (though magnetic boundaries can be used).

Another model from the iRobot's budget line that is the V3S Pro has some impressive features for the price. It beat out all other robotic vacuums we tested when it comes to the ability to avoid obstacles and map them, and it's the best option for those who are looking for a smarter self-emptying robot vacuum that can handle pet hair and messes on both hardwood floors and low-pile carpeting. It's also very quiet and has a huge dust bin that holds plenty of debris prior to when it's time to empty it, so you don't have to worry about constantly emptying it.

The V3S Pro did not make it into any of our top picks lists from reliable sources that perform hands-on tests, but it was praised by Modern Castle, Smart Robot Reviews and The Ambient. They liked how easy it was to set good robot vacuum up and use, but they also noted that its battery life is short and it didn't manage to avoid some of the toughest mess we've put it through.

Roborock Q Revo

The Q Revo is an entry-level robot mop and vacuum that comes with a variety of features at a reasonable cost. You'll find many of the features that you'll find on high-end models, including smart navigation and mapping, without spending top dollar. You can use voice commands with Alexa, Google Assistant or Apple Siri shortcuts for custom automations, and also to start your cleaning process while you are away.

Roborock has spent time in the development of this smart cleaner. This is why the product is extremely well-built and feels like it was built with top materials. Its base is strong and solid, and has an integrated charging port for the battery. There's a docking station for the tank that is clean and the dirty-water bins above. There's also a panel under the dock that holds a sealed vacuum bag.

Once you pair your device with the app, you'll see an interactive map of your home, which shows the exact location where your robot is in and the area it's cleaning. You can also build virtual barriers to ensure that your robot isn't in certain areas or only clean certain kinds of flooring. It is also able to adjust its power settings based on the type of floor being cleaned and select the most efficient cleaning method.

Unlike many other robot vacuums like the Q Revo, it can lift up both of its mop heads while vacuuming to avoid staining your carpet fibres. It's actually one of the very few vacuums that can do this.

The Q Revo's suction power of 5500Pa is enough to remove pet hair and dust specks while mopping. The all-rubber brush can be used to disentangle human and animal hair, as it adjusts to uneven surfaces.

Its only downside is that it does take a while to empty and fill the clean and dirty water tanks. You can reduce the frequency of this by using the auto-empty feature, which will empty the bin on its own after a couple of days. You'll still need to check the level of water in the dock manually, however, since there's no way to set an automatic reminder.
